January, February, March events

SUNDAY JANUARY 20   SPECIAL EVENT

There is an unofficial fly-in to Dean Johnson’s American River Airstrip on Kangaroo Island for a demonstration of Peter Hupfield’s new 80% replica P – 51 Mustang.  The event coincides with the American River Gala Day and bus transport will be provided for anyone wishing to go from the airfield to the gala during the day.  As Dean and Judy Johnson will be hosting our Club for a barbecue lunch on Sunday February 3, it would be great is a few club aircraft are able to drop in on January 20.

I will be going and already have a full load of passengers.  If anyone else is interested, please let me know so I can advise the Johnsons.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 3   MONTHLY CLUB MEETING

Our monthly club meeting will be a BYO barbecue at Dean Johnson’s American River Airstrip on Kangaroo Island.  The airstrip is shown on the Adelaide VNC at YJOH (Johnson’s Airstrip).  The location is S35 48.6 E137 44.0 and is within the Kingscote CTAF which operates on 126.0.  There are four runways, all reasonably long, so there should be no problems finding a suitable runway.

Please plan to arrive by 11:00, and please let me know by MONDAY JANUARY 28 if you plan to attend.

MARCH 9 – 11  CLUB FLY AWAY

Sunday March 10          Bus tour of The Grampians area

Monday March 11        Depart Horsham for Kingston SE

Accommodation will be at the Olde Horsham Motor Inn.  They are holding 10 rooms for us until 31 January; you must book by that date to get our special rate otherwise you will have to take your chances on getting a room there or at another motel.

Costs for the weekend will be $210 per room (twin or double) for the two nights at the motel (includes cooked breakfast on Sunday and Monday) plus

  • a small additional charge for the poolside barbecue;
  • approximately $450 for bus hire (as at Broken Hill, I will pay for the bus on my credit card and collect contributions from everyone at Horsham).

What you need to do as soon as possible and not later than 31 January is:

  • Let me know if you plan to attend;
  • Contact the motel and book your room (Tel. 03 5381 0033 or info@oldehorsham.com.au) .  Be sure to tell them you are part of the Aldinga Aero Club group booking;
  • Let me know if you have any spare seats in your aircraft or if you would like a seat.
